Chapter 1 · Topic 7
BOD: Transport mode
- Defines the physical method of movement on a lane — truck, rail, sea, air
- Each mode has a different lead time, cost, and capacity profile
- Affects replenishment cycle frequency and planning horizon
- Multiple modes can be defined on a single origin-destination lane
- Mode selection balances service level against transportation cost
Transport Mode defines the physical method of movement on a distribution lane — truck, rail, sea, or air. Each mode carries a different lead time, cost profile, and capacity constraint. The planning engine uses transport mode to determine which lanes are feasible for a given replenishment need and when shipments must depart to arrive on time. Multiple modes can be defined on a single lane, allowing o9 to choose the best option based on urgency and cost.
