Chapter 1 · Topic 10
Resource Consumed
- Links a transformation process to the resource it consumes
- Defines the consumption rate — capacity used per unit of output
- Fixed consumption covers setup time; variable covers run rate
- Summed across all planned batches to check resource feasibility
- Bottleneck resources constrain the total achievable supply plan
Resource Consumed is the link that connects a transformation process to a resource — it specifies how much capacity is used each time the process runs. Without this link, the planning engine has no way to know that making 1,000 units of Product X will occupy Bottling Line 3 for 8 hours. Consumption can be fixed (a setup cost paid once per batch) or variable (a run rate proportional to output). o9 sums all resource consumptions across the plan and compares them against available capacity to identify bottlenecks.
